One of the most common causes of dry eye is poor oil production from the eyelids. Over time, the glands in the lids become blocked and inflamed leading to increased evaporation of the tears. Traditional treatments of applying warm compresses have had varying results. The Blephasteam system applies a constant gentle heat the lids which melts the oils and waxes that block the tear ducts. Combined with gentle massage of the lids, this treatment can significantly improve the symptoms of dry eye. Typically, four 20 minute treatments are required, followed by lid massages by your optometrist.
