Safety Glasses

While 60% of eye injuries occur in the workplace it has been estimated that up to 21% of eye injuries in Australia are sustained while doing DIY projects at home. Recent studies have estimated that only 12% of Australian's wear eye protection. A common misconception is that our normal glasses are sufficient to provide that protection. While glasses are strong, the materials used are not strong enough to provide protection from a projectile impact such as a stone flicked up while using the whipper snipper. Our regular frames are also not designed to protect use from dust and debris.

It is important that we all wear eye protection not only in the work environment but also at home. Some safety glasses can be worn over regular glasses though this is not always practical. Custom made prescription safety glasses are another options. The lenses and frames have been specially designed to protect the eye from impacts, debris and UV exposure. In Australia all safety glasse have to certified to meet Australian Standards.

Gary our Optical Mechanic has previously worked for a safety eyewear company and has regularly spoke at workplaces on eye safety. Should you need more advice about protecting your eyes or finding the perfect pair of safety prescription glasses call us on 03 9629 5495.
